It’s not
easy to tap into our spiritual side in this day and age. With the
stresses of work and living in this teeming city, combined with the
overriding desire to achieve all those long-held objectives, many of
us forget about taking care of our spiritual needs.
Or we
simply overlook them, because they would get in the way of our bigger
plans.
Sure,
there is the occasional tug of consciousness, along with that
disruptive question – “Is this all there is?” – that most often
emerges at life-defining points, particularly when it comes to big
birthdays.
It’s
only been a couple of weeks since many of us went through a
rejuvenating religious cleansing of sorts, and this month’s
Weekender delves into the issue of nurturing the spirit. No, we
don’t attempt to get in touch with our inner child, but we do meet
people who had the courage to leave the rat race behind to do what
matters most to them.
For it
does take bravery to step out of our comfort zone, especially giving
up the reassurance of a regular pay slip to pursue our dreams.
Ultimately, as readers will find in our Centerpiece articles, being
happy is a step-by-step, one-day-at-a-time process. And, as some
gloomy types will be relieved to find out, a constant state of
happiness means there is something wrong with you!
