Recipes For Success
A lot has gone on during this short month,
from the tragic floods that swamped Jakarta to the recent Lunar New Year
observation.
In acknowledgement of the latter, we profile Johnny Andrean, who branched out
from hairdressing to try his hand at the boutique bread business, and then built
on that success to venture into donuts. Johnny, whose hair salons were
vandalized during the anti-Chinese riots of 1998, discusses bouncing back from
that hardship and his recipe for good business.
Coming up are the Oscars, with many of us glued to our TV sets to see who
carries off the little gold man. In a nod to the local movie scene, the
Weekender sat down with Joko Anwar, one of the most promising young
directors today. With his sophomore effort due out in April, critics and the
public are waiting to see if he can deliver once again.
Also inside is recognition of all the pack rats among us, the latest health
trend to “listen” to our bodies and the fashion news, with the “white knight”
look making its return.
We at the Weekender have been taking stock since our debut in January.
Thanks to all the readers who took the time to give their input on the
magazine’s contents. All your opinions, from the glowing reviews to the more
critical perspectives, were appreciated.
Keep those comments coming as we strive to better meet your needs.
