Men in Black … Again

It’s that dark and gloomy time again, heralded by the arrival of fall and winter fashions.

I have never understood why designers seem to put their creativity into hibernation for the fall/winter collections. The perennial predominance of black and dark hues seem to be the designers’ collective declaration, “Here I have made your requested somber season offerings. Job done.”

If I were a designer, and supposed to offer something a bit more creative than the same-old, same-old tried and true fashions, I would design attire full of the light and cheer so often missing from these seasons. It would be an antidote to the winter blues and all those gray rainy days.

But I am not a powerful designer calling the shots. Instead, I have to learn the fine art of accepting what we cannot change in life. Black is the color of the season’s jackets, shoes, bags and other accessories. Take it or leave it.

Still, because we are fortunate to live in a sun-filled tropical climate, mix that black with colorful short-sleeved shirts and polo shirts.  Consider yourself a little ray of sunshine peeking out from the dark.
