‘I am moved when I see hope’

Titi DJ's

One of Titi DJ’s favorite things at the end of last year was a boisterous St. Bernard puppy, bought for her four children. Although the dog proved too much of a handful and was returned to its original owner, the entertainer’s family now has a new addition: the mother of four tied the knot with husband number three, musician Ovy, on her 41st birthday last May in Mecca. Pets may come and go, but renowned style maven and Indonesian plastic surgery pioneer Titi has definite preferences about life’s little luxuries.

Children
They are my diamonds, my inspiration, my charger when I’m low, my energy booster and my hope.

Handbags
This is my “unique” bag collection. I used to like the brand names that came out with new models every season, but after a while they seemed to get more and more expensive. And the seasons also change so quickly; after three months, a model is already “so last season”.  But the ones I have now remain unique a year from now, or even 10 years from now. People look forward to seeing what bag I am going to bring with me.

Perfume
I have lots of perfume because I don’t want to have a recognizable fragrance. I don’t want people to be able to say, “Ah, Titi’s here” just from a whiff of my perfume. My favorites have herbal tones. I also look at the packaging; I don’t like girlie, strange bottles. My preference is simple, masculine styles.

Shoes
I choose them for their functionality. My Louis Vuitton gold shoes are for my stage outfits, because many of them have elements of gold. My Manolo Blahnik heels are for going around during the day, but you can’t wear them too long, because your feet hurt. But they really are the softest shoes.

Cell phone
My cell phones are very important to me for communication. My children can contact me anytime, as well as my management and friends, because I like to talk. I have three different ones for different service providers.

Sunglasses
I love sunglasses. Apart from their functionality as protection from the sun, I like to use them during a rehearsal when I have not been made up yet if there are photographers around. I have a wide face so they also work as camouflage.  I have brand models, but if I see a pair that I like at a sidewalk vendor, I’ll buy it.

Fruit
My breakfast is always fruit and yoghurt. According to food combining, there are three stages in the digestive cycle, and the morning is for elimination, so heavy foods should be avoided. I try to follow food combining, but I don’t do it every day.
