The lighter things in life
Set
your prurient free to take an intimate look
into one of showbiz’s most bizarre love triangles. The woman in the
middle, Patti Boyd, comes clean about her history with George Harrison
and Eric Clapton in her new autobiography Wonderful Tonight.
Married first to the late Beatle, and then to Clapton two years after
their divorce, the ex-model played muse to both musicians and is said
to have inspired hits such as Layla, Wonderful Tonight
and Something.
Discover the hidden gastronomic gem that is
Atavola in Kemang,
South Jakarta
(No. 125 Jl. Kemang Selatan Raya). The two-year-old Italian restaurant
and deli is cosy (think checkered table cloths), quaint and serves up
inexpensive and authentic Italian dishes. The menu is surprisingly
extensive for a small joint, and its deli is well stocked with cured
meats, fine cheeses, freshly baked foccacia (pre-orders only) and even
home-made ravioli.
Brace yourself for more of James Blunt’s
hauntingly annoying (or beautiful, to the romantics among us) voice on
the airwaves when the singer releases his sophomore album All the
Lost Souls this month. Fancy your music louder, grittier or a
little more country? Foo Fighters, Kanye West and Rascall Flatts are
also jostling for chart space with new releases. And if none of that
is music to your ears, the inimitable Chaka Khan, last seen at this
year’s Java Jive Festival, puts out a new album entitled Funk This
consisting both covers and original material.
Post
your own YouTube video and become an
overnight sensation. The latest person gifted with his 15 minutes of
fame is Tay Zonday, a singer-songwriter-keyboardist from
Minnesota. The 25-year-old posted an original composition Chocolate
Rain on the video-sharing site and shot to fame in July when the
catchy, albeit nonsensical ditty and Zonday’s unique baritone voice
became a viral sensation. The original video has attracted more than
4.3million viewers and the song has sparked off countless parodies on
YouTube. Witness the madness at http://youtube.com/watch?v=EwTZ2xpQwpA
Plan
how you are going to pass the time
during the upcoming Lebaran break if you are staying put in town. With
more than half the city headed home during the festive season, the
streets will be empty, the malls quiet and the roads traffic-free.
Joy.
Start
working on your beach perfect body. With the 1st Asian
Beach Games in Bali a year away, you’ll have enough time to whip
yourself in shape. The event, scheduled over 8 days from Oct. 18-26,
is expected to attract some 5,000 athletes from 45 countries competing
in a variety of beach activities, ranging from beach soccer and
volleyball to marathon swimming and paragliding. If you can’t join
‘em, you can at least watch them -- while looking your absolute beach
best, of course.
